“Tory advice to ‘take a torch and get on with it’ shows how little they care about local people” Cllr Meredith

Liberal Democrat Cllr Dennis Meredith has attacked the Conservatives at County Hall after a senior Conservative Councillor told residents who were worried about going out in the dark after the Conservatives switched off the streetlights that they should "take a torch and get on with it".

Cllr Meredith said "I am appalled at how the Conservatives are behaving. They plunged Northamptonshire into darkness, leaving vulnerable people in my area trapped in their homes. Now the Conservative-run Council have told me they are refusing to listen to any appeals at all."

"Worse still, they don't seem to care about the impact of their thoughtless decision. The comments from a senior Conservative Councillor that people should "take a torch and get on with it" were a disgrace. Elderly and vulnerable people across my area have been let down and insulted. Their rude and dismissive attitude shows how little they care about local people."
