Petition on Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’s) presented to Council
The Liberal Democrat Group presented a petition to West Northamptonshire Council yesterday evening, with nearly 700 signatures from residents raising concerns about the impact of introducing the pre-booking system for the Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC). Residents have queried the need for the pre-booking system and have raised concerns about fly-tipping and bins over-spilling for kerbside collections.
Cllr Stewart Tolley, who took the lead presenting the petition called out the council leader for remarks he made in his leader’s address describing the petition as ‘a load of rubbish’. Cllr Tolley described the remarks as insulting to residents.
Later in questions to the Leader, Cllr Jonathan Harris asked the leader to apologise for insulting council tax paying residents who were simply using their democratic right to raise concerns. Unsurprisingly, the leader refused.
The petition will now be considered by the council, and we will share the formal response once it has been received.
