Harry Barrett, who was a Labour Councillor representing Kingsthorpe South until last May’s elections, has joined the Liberal Democrats.

Former Councillor Harry Barrett says:
“I’m delighted to announce that I have joined the Liberal Democrats. Having worked alongside local stalwarts such as former Cllr Sally Beardsworth and Cllr Jonathan Harris over the past four years, I’ve seen firsthand how impactful and respected the Liberal Democrat group is. Liberal Democrats fight for their residents and that’s what I’m all about. It’s all about putting people first”.
He continues, “Over the course of my political career so far, I’ve committed my time to getting results for residents and being the voice of the unheard. I’ve been campaigning locally on a number of issues and although I’m no longer an elected official, I worked cross party to ensure our modular housing scheme went through. I’m delighted to have worked on that project which will change people’s lives. I can’t wait to start campaigning locally for the Liberal Democrats”.
Harry’s day job is Assistant Head Teacher in a secondary school as well as sitting on a local charity’s board as a trustee.
He is a father to two young boys, Cillan, aged 7 and Flynn, aged 5. He describes them both as community champions in their own right.

Local Liberal Democrat Party Chair, Chris Leggett says “ We are delighted that Harry has joined our local party. Many of their members are growing increasingly concerned by their policy positions and in particular their position on immigration. Harry is a welcome addition to the team and we will be working hard to get Harry elected as a Liberal Democrat Councillor as soon as we possibly can”.
This announcement follows the news that sitting Councillor Farzana Aldridge left the Labour Party to join the Liberal Democrats at West Northamptonshire Council over the weekend.
