Conservative Council ‘waters down’ Climate Emergency plan

Local proposals to tackle the Climate Emergency put together by a cross-party group on Daventry District Council have been watered down with over 50 recommendations reduced to just 20.
The Conservative-run council declared a climate emergency and are to allocate responsibility to an existing Senior Manager designated as Climate Emergency Champion.

"The recommendations are not very specific or measurable and lack commitment. They are effectively urging the new West Northamptonshire Council to pick up the issue" said Daventry District Lib Dem Cllr Jonathan Harris, a member of the cross-party group.

"We need to be acting now. The group worked hard to develop pragmatic recommendations in the full knowledge of the impact of a new council. Yet again it shows the Conservatives lack of ambition and leadership. We can't wait for the new council to get up and running. This is really disappointing; however, all the group members have agreed to lobby for more actions while Daventry District Council continues to exists".
