Long Buckby LibDem Candidates

Neil Farmer

Neil’s family has been in Northampton back to 1757 – so local through and through. Brought up in Northampton, he started work at the Borough Engineers before moving to the County Surveyors Dept in 1973, In 1987 he moved into the computing arena and worked for a local Geographical Information System Company and was responsible for this specialist software in 18 local authorities, so he has worked on both sides of local authority work and dealt with many Councils and there officers before retiring in 2016. He moved to Long Buckby in 1989 and his 2 children were taught in the local schools, his wife worked as a teacher before moving onto Special needs in the west Northamptonshire area schools before being made redundant when the County Council stopped the service.

He has been part of the local Daventry Liberal Democrats for many years, dealing with being secretary, membership, agent, candidate and web site designer over the last 20 years.  He volunteers for Northamptonshire Archives and Northampton Heritage Transport.

Nigel Strang

Nigel's maternal side of an extended family have lived and farmed in Northamptonshire for generations. From an early age Nigel became aware of his mother's side of the family living in tune with nature and the environment. The ebb and flow of the farming calendar and local politics common themes in regular letters from Bugbrooke and environs. Despite spending many years living in different parts of the world, news of 'doings' in Northamptonshire and Bugbrooke in particular were to act as a magnet that brought him back to live permanently in 1991, by then with his wife and two young children.

Nigel followed forebears becoming involved in local politics - district Councillor, in education - school Governor and at the local church - Reader.

Spare time usually finds him long distance walking and when possible skiing and sailing. A Hüt in a plot across from the family home in Flore is great for gardening and reading books too!

Will Hughes

Will has fond memories of growing up in Creaton and attended both Guilsborough Primary and Secondary schools before training as a chef at Northampton Catering College. His career as a chef then took him from London to the Netherlands where he settled for seven years before returning once more to the five star hotels in and around London. In 2017 he decided that it would be nice to see some daylight occasionally and also to spend some more time with his husband so he left the city behind once again and moved to Welford in order to facilitate studying a law degree which he is due to complete in the coming months. While based in Welford he has also been sitting as a magistrate on the Leicester and Rutland bench and also volunteering as an advisor with the Citizens Advice service, which has provided valuable insight into local government.
He has found it truly depressing to witness how far the state of politics in the UK has fallen in the ten years since he returned, the blatant mismanagement of public funds and shameless corruption that seems prevalent in central government at the moment is shocking. Rather than passively criticise the situation he decided that it was time to be proactive and to try to improve things from the inside, hence his decision to stand in these elections.
